MOVING HOUSE CHECKLIST

Moving home can be a stressful time, with hundreds of things that you need to organise. It can be quite a daunting task, especially if you haven’t moved recently. On average, people move home once every seven years, so it is unlikely you’ll have moved often, so it can be a great idea to produce a moving home checklist to ensure that you have everything organised and covered. So what needs to be included on a moving home checklist and why? Here are some answers from professional removal companies throughout the UK.

  • Firstly, you need to get removal quotes from a good variety of local removal companies. Do not just pick the first one, because prices and quality of service can vary dramatically. Read reviews online of each removal firm, and don’t settle for the first price they offer you. Make sure you bargain with them, and get quotes from at least ten different removal companies. They typically cost upwards of four hundred pounds each for a removals service, so it is important that you get the best deal possible.

  • Once you have picked a reliable and reasonably priced removal company, the next thing you need to think about is getting the right removal packaging for the job. You will need the best packing cardboard boxes, bubble wrap for protection, packing tissue paper for protection, strong packing tape and some marker pens too. It is important to pick up the large boxes for moving house that you need far in advance of your house move, and to pre pack your things up. This ensures that you can organise everything efficiently, and protect your things properly too, but it also saves you money because this is the largest cost that a removal company will charge for if you didn’t do it yourself.

  • Organising the actual date of the move is equally as important, and should be done at the same time as the previous two points. You need to organise the date with the solicitors involved, and the people moving out of the house you are moving into and the people who are moving into your home too. It is a tricky process. The removal company you choose need to be well aware of the date that you are planning to move.

  • You’ll need to take time off work to move home. Very few removal companies will work over a weekend, and it is likely that you will need a couple of days after the move to fully unpack your things from the house removal packing boxes. Make sure you plan this in advance with the workplace that you work in.
